As I thought about what to write about this week I looked and search for ideas. As many bloggers do. I think one of the funnest things I can do is share what it is like to be woman.

I am woman a song from long ago said. I believed it. There is nothing I can achieve. I though. Expect in the search to find a place to live and all the rejections I have received lately it made me question. What is woman today? The cute generation of lifestyle blogs with the perfection of life. The world where everyone envies me. I laugh to myself.

Definition of "Lifestyle" Refers to the way a person lives. This includes patterns of social relations, food consumption, behaviors and interests. A lifestyle typically reflects an individual's attitudes and one's interaction with the world.

Therefore, everyone has a Lifestyle we each have one rich, poor and everything in between. It’s just another way of saying class, style, design, color, prestige, influence, ability and designer to made ones dreams and ideas come true.  That’s what this blog is really about. Lifestyle, Design and sharing with you one of my favorite places.

Shopping the week I sumbled across some pieces of furniture, I think my son Dustin Kamon (Sept-Nov. 2018) would of loved for his place. His friend would of loved it too. I love shopping for my children and my clients. That is paying clients. Yes, I get paid for helping people create a lifestyle. Meaning customers who enjoy of paying MKPDE to decorate their place. I have said this before and I don’t mean to sound rude. I might be paid for an art piece I create, at Maria Kamon photography, maybe it would be for staging their place for their next event.

This weeks lifestyle choice is a few pieces I found at Z Gallery. The first piece I would like to talk about is the place settings I like saying is Harry Potter inspired. It was one of my child’s favorite books to read. Honestly, I haven’t read it. However, I understand it is a truly wonderful story. The fun thing is watching your child reading skills develop due to the fact he/she enjoys reading. With this came friends that also enjoyed reading. He didn’t act any of the things out like other children. He just enjoyed the books all types and the stories told. I enjoyed watching him learn about things I never thought of. This placesetting he would of loved. Harry Potter inspired or not it's lovely.

I personally though this place settings and tables are lovely. It's elegance will keep your guest talking about your house and home for years.

The "Stella" bed is bed with its high upholstered back. For those that like a tuck look.

My last choice is the look of realistic turkeys on tablets. I'm not sure if they still do this now that I live a different lifestyle I don't cook "Thanksgiving Dinner" . The turkey dinners at the local grocery tore would be sold more economically that I could make it and I would order one for myself and donate one to the local church that was feeding people. I love living in San Diego. People help people making sure they have food to eat, a place to live and help they need.

What Is It You Want? He asked

I was thinking about all the employments I have had through out my my life time. I started working when I was 12 or 13 years old. I wanted extra money for some things and my parents didn’t think I should have it. I asked them if I find employment and get paid can I have it? I found this magazine with all types of things for sale. I wrote the owner of the magazine and asked him if I could try selling some items. He said, yes. That started my skills as an entrepreneur. I walked door to door in my neighborhood sold what I could. I sold items to friend and family and managed to save up for whatever it was I wanted. I don’t remember the item it was. It was the fact that I could do it without asking my parents for money.  Once I earned the money I needed I just stop selling.

Prior to that I had gone to the local pharmacy and deli to see if they would hire and employ me. They respectfully declined stating the laws of the state wouldn’t allow them to hire child labor laws. I quickly went to school and remember asking my teacher if they would allow me extra time in the library. He gave me extra credit if I wrote a paper about it. Growing up biligual English and Spainish I would always mess up on the grammar and I hated writing. However, I was looking up information and I thought I would why not. Child labor laws, I was shocked to find out what it meant and how people take advantage of children. That started my career and ended up being part of my major in college. Who knew that studying the abuse of children in the past would lead to a fofilling life as a director of children’s program. Opening up several schools for private industry as well as church affiliations.

One simple thing in childhood can influence a discover and love that is unexpected, rewarding and challenging. This has lead to a love of writing ( I shared this story in another blog.)  As I got older and learned the difference between writing a paper for school and writing for an audience. I discover the words we write don’t always sound the same to others. That’s what writing the schools newsletter taught. I had parents, who would always ask me questions. What do you mean? Are you tring to say this or that. Sometimes I would say, No I am trying to say exactly what I wrote. Other times I saw their point of view. Either way through the discussing of my writing I become more confident in who I am. What does that have to do with meeting and event planning. I have written a blog on this platform since 2003. The first one was under the name of MK Productions Meeting and Event Planning. Not until recently have I thought about what I have learned throughout  the years I have learned. It all started with receiving an email from another blogger about making money at blogging.

In five years of blogging time she has surpassed my earnings as a teacher, event planner and blogger. She is now teaching other how to blog and selling her knowledge for a price.  Do I covet that ability. I would be a liar if I didn’t say yes. Multiple streams of income. I read. I knew of affiliate programs and how they worked however some how my blogs just didn’t make enough sales. I know I can sale things with my logo and print things and sell them. I just keep thinking. To some degree. Blogging has been a way of expressing what I learned. Now here are these bloggers telling other bloggers. Look at me I’m making more money than you. Please don’t misunderstand me. I usually make fun of people I respect and am all for them leading me to greener times. Does this mean it is time to change my blog. Blogging style? That is what I am asking you, the reader. Without you there is no blog. No story to tell. No one to help no one to hear my stories....read my stories. Do I write about how to make money blogging? Do I keep on keeping on?

30 Day October Challenge-Day 26 Your Favorite Things About Holidays

Hi there, Diamond Glamour Girls;

I know you might think less of me after you read this, however I have to be honest. I never think of this season as holiday's. Even when teaching we broke it up into specific days. Holidays implies all of it. I'm not sure if when really is capable of doing all of it! Every celebration on the calender. Is one?

The first thing I enjoy is getting out my hats, scrafts, camera got to be ready to take. Photographs of the people, places, thinks. I'm San Diegian and it is the most beautiful place on earth!

We have our churches that do their big Nativity productions, other do their Navidad production,  while other present choirs that sing. Then their are my friends children who are in plays, skits and productions of Thanksgiving and the meaning of our founding Father's what the meaning of the Holidays means! Plus not all my friends are of the same believe system, when invited I attended their children things or their churches production. That's always fun.

Let's talk about lights! So many of every color! I'm not sure if they still do this, the Del Mar Fairgrounds use to have this light show you could drive through. That's San Diego. Then we have the Christmas Boat Parades in several areas of San Diego, check your local news for times and dates. How about the museums, parks, and city parades and celebrities celebrations. Now my favorite are all the personal parties, dinners I'm invited to. Thank You!

Unemployment is it?

As many of you know and understand since 2003 I have owned a meeting and Event company. However, since I'm a single mom, who has elderly people to watch over. Life isn't always easy.  This is not a woo is me blog or feel sorry for me it's my reality. This is the second time in this time that I have been unemployed. I have always had to have two employments and continue my education in the ever fast changing event world. As technology changes so does the way people interact with one another.

I am highly impressed with what unemployment is trying to do for its people. I know it sounds silly or ridiculous that I would be impressed with a government institutions with all that is happening in the world. What is talked about. The North County San Diego office is very good at helping it's people. From the little things like getting your resume online to making sure you recieve your card from Bank America to get paid. Here is what also expressed me, they cared enough to ask me since I was unemployed did I have enough to eat. More than my friends of many years have asked. When hard times hit, that's when one knows who a friend and who was just there for the good times. Good wife, right?

I hope you never have to experience what I have as a woman business owner. With technology being everywhere the world changed and it changed the lives of many. If your one of those who followed my family and I then you know some of our struggles. Like many Americans the reality of aging parents, teenagers, college students and the ever changing high expectations of self sufficientcy we place on our youth. It's nice to know, there are still a few agency were we can get assistance when we need it.

First you can get your computer skills checked by several agencies that will certify you for typing skills some are for a fee and some are free. Once certified you wil know which ones you qualify for. I'll write a list below.

Second : Are you hungry? Apply for what use to be food stamps is now called CalFresh. There are workshops you can attend every Monday.

Third: you have to establish identity. Citizensship and employment to recieve unemployment. US Passport or US Card. The list is lengthy.

Fourth: Register with North County Career Center for resume writing, employment search and motivation.

Fifth: iI also have a list of agencies you can contact if you need help.

Sixth: Apply for employment or to enhance your job search with www.caljobs.ca.gov.

I'll have all of this posted for you in the next day or so. Til then, get ready...the goal in life is to live a Happy, healthy, productive life.

More Than One Way To Starve a Woman

On this cloudy day, where the sky is grey what a blessing for those who have lost their home in the May 15 th (fifteenth) fires. I awoke thinking of many topics to write about something I haven't done in a long time. Most of the time I like keeping my thoughts to myself. Somehow, the shallow topics I write about are the things that keep me sane. Events, weddings, meetings planning is my thing. I do love the word of God, like many after their children prove faith, finding a church as a family became difficult. It isn't the same. You each have different needs.

I use to be the one in the family that would find a church for our family to attend. The goal to stay together was the focus, rather than the mission of the church. It was a deep inner need for this mom to be just that the mom of my children. I no longer had the "call" to serve. I did have the call to attend and worship.

    • The fourth book  "New Testament" I was taught to apply them for practical living. It is the fourth book of the gospels. Mark, Matthew, Luke, John. It is interesting how every time I have tried to study this book, life happens. I have through CBS (Community Bible Study) or BSF (Bible Study Fellowship) studied every book in the bible. This last time my Aunt died. It was a sorrow that left me devastated. How I loved this aunt her name like mine, Maria. No, I wasn't named after her I was named after my father's mother. One might ask why she was so important to me. Because of her and my dad's family I graduated from college, learned to draw and thought of becoming an attorney. In my second or third year of college I changed to wanting to become a teacher. She is also the aunt that taught me how to draw, paint, and write poetry. She believed women could live a life without being depend on a mom, dad or man. Woman should have their own voice and express it. Now how does this lead to starvation?

      Do you consider the word of "God" food?  Do you consider the word of "God" truth? Even if you look at it as a history book it is true.  Nonetheless, would you blame it for the starvation in the world?

    • There is physical starvation, emotional starvation, loss of home starvation, loss of employment starvation,loss of clothing, loss of income starvation and the literal loss of healthy food to eat starvation.  Can a person starve because their home was burned by fire? Can a person Starve because they were forced to move someplace they didn't want to. What a thought. Look at all the homeless people we have in San Diego. How many of those will be displaced North County residence who had no place or no one to help them?

President's Day Weekend

Hi there, Diamond Glamour Girls;

Another Presidents Weekend, for some it was full of joy, laughter, enjoying family and friends. BB Q's burning and beach picnic, this year you might just be by the TV watching the Olympics. Those people they enjoy company with, for others a weekend of solitude. Where laughter is listening to others or watching TV. What is it that life has to offer you?  What is it that you want out of life.

You know I was working out today and the place I go to work out has more televisions then I have ever seen before.  The funniest part in the women's locker room they are all on the food network, one famous chef or another.  I always wonder the same thing. Don't they know, I am here to exercise the goal is to stay away from food. I laugh to myself because the other woman are there for the same reason.

Anyway as I was saying I was working out on the tread meal, that endless exercise that takes you no where but burns aloft of calories if done right.  The TV was on, the famous TV Series "Sex in the City" was on and I realized as I am watching it that I missed that whole era. I missed it in my real life and on TV.

 I had girlfriends we went out, but none of us did that whole who can sleep with whom and who was better.  We went dancing and made a pact that none of us would let the other either get drunk or leave with a man.  The whole sex (ST D's) was to big for me.  Had to many friends get ill from this reality and we all wanted to be respected. Have happy children and be able to say we did our best in life without sleeping our way to the top.  The reality of having a high school friend die during high school shock many of us into the reality that life is short, it is about how to best use the time on earth.  It is a gift.

I still am friends with many of those woman and although our lives are not perfect, we do know it wasn't because we didn't try out best or love enough.  It is because sometimes even the best of relationships get intruded by past issues that have no business in the future.  Is there anything different that I would do? Would I change the man I married? or the children I had? The house I lived in?  The parent's that gave be birth? The mom that remarried? No, like many I see life as our ability to cope, do the best we can with what we have. It was never my desire to "Make it Big" or be someone I am not.  It was this woman's desire, like many others to have integrity, to be able to be real with people and have them be real back. To own a home of my own, to have children who love me and knew I did the best I could. Knowing that they have both good and bad memories like the rest of the people on earth.

Event, wedding, meeting planning started right away when I was in college and later grew into my profession for a corporation. I still am amazed at what a blessing it is to help other create their day.  I think that is why I love it so much. It is never about me.  It is about my client, the bride, the groom, the parents, the business person, the dad who wants a special moment with his daughter to kiss her on the cheek as he gives her away because he know it will be the last time she will truly be only his.  Yes, she might be a grown up woman, but she is "his" little girl. She will be a changed woman charging another mans name..  Or the moment, the corporations, plans for a year to create a special moment to say thank you to it's employees who have worked with the company mission in mind and met and exceeded the corporations expectations.  How about the board of directors who work diligently for the business without pay, and are treated to a weekend away or a dinner with their wives.

What a different life focus the "Sex in the City" had compared to my girlfriends and I.  I laugh to myself, thinking we all dated, married, some divorced, some didn't. Some married men 10 years younger that them, others married men 10 years older.  The one thing we had in common was the reality to made a decision not to let sex be the driving force of out life. To have goals, set them, and make daily decisions knowing we are the best we can be when we are our own best friend.

On this Presidents Day, may your life be blessed, Full of Bread, your baskets overflowing with with fruit, your families filled with love, your children safe, you home Blessed. That is the American Dream.

Restaurant Critic I Am...

It is a funny thing about being a meeting and event planner/wedding planner.  Part of our job description is to go on tastings.  Food tastings that.  Restaurants and chefs know that it a meeting and events planners’ best interest for our client to find the right type of food to be served at our client’s event.  For some people it is simplistic flavors, for others it is all about the mixology (mixing of different drinks to become a new flavor) and fusion (mixing of different food flavors or cultural food flavors).  Organic, non organic all of this plays a role when it comes to food.  You have to enjoy food, the character of the food making process and understand what it brings to the event or takes away.

Many of us attend events where we do not know anyone other than the guest of honor.  Focusing on the food gives us conversation starters.  If it is a dish prepared with care and an understanding of flavors, it allows the person people to feel comfortable and can be the subject for conversation.  Once that begins then it is a matter of time before friendships are formed.  Friendship or business acquaintances lead to many possibilities.  In a world where we are always on the texting, Internet, and into our own selves (and I am guilty of this as much as anyone one else) food has always been a bridge to bring people together, creating relationships, business deals, families and all that is good.  If our tummies are full, then our bodies can create.

Often I get asked what my favorite restaurant is. I don’t just have one.  Every once in a while I like to go out to eat all by myself and enjoy the quite time.  One of my favorite restaurants is Vigilucci’s Restaurant.    They have several restaurants in North County, San Diego.  Why this restaurant, one might wonder.  Honestly, because it doesn’t matter which one of their restaurants I visit, from Carlsbad to La Jolla, I am treated with respect. 

The food is always delicious.  Today, I treated myself to a lovely salmon lunch.  The salmon had a pink (Vodka/Pomegranate) sauce I had never tasted before. Wow, what great flavor, although I had plenty to eat and left full, it left me longing for more.  The side dish of spaghetti and vegetables were also amazingly flavorful nothing else needed to be added.  Normally we add salt, pepper or cheese, but I am telling you the chef did an amazing job.  Perfection!  Unfortunately, today I had another appointment so I didn’t get to eat dessert. I did see others enjoying themselves, and when you see others enjoying themselves then you know it must be as amazing as the meal I just ate.  I do have to say, I was so enjoying my time and my meal I requested something they don’t normally do, coffee to go.  The waiter was so respectful he. I didn’t want to be too relaxed for my next appointment.  That is one thing the environment a Vigilucci’s Restaurant did create.  The Carlsbad’s Vigilucci’s Restaurant creates a sense of relaxation while you are ordering, eating and just time to enjoy their lovely environment and your meal.

As I watched others hassle in getting things ready for the Carlsbad Beach fest I was grateful I could enjoy the sunshine, ocean view and the summer breeze from their protected patio area.  Had I been dressed a little more fashionable I would have enjoyed myself just as much in their indoor seating area.  I am very thankful for the clients I have, knowing what it is like to be hungry makes going out to lunch so much more special.
